Case study
Opprio: contract and grant alerts for small businesses
Opprio is our own product. We designed and built it end to end, from the data pipeline to the subscription website.
At a glance
- Our role
- Design and build, end to end: the data pipeline, matching, alert emails and the subscription website.
- What it is
- A service that watches public contract and grant postings and emails small businesses and solo consultants the ones that fit their work.
- Built with
- Next.js, TypeScript, PostgreSQL (Prisma) and Stripe, hosted on Railway.
The problem
The main government-contract tools are priced for large agencies and contractors, which leaves out individuals and small firms. We built Opprio for those people.
What we built
Opprio emails people the notices that fit their work. People can also browse every open notice on the site. There's a free account, plus paid plans.
Alert rules
Set up rules and get matching notices in a daily email digest.
Browse and filter
Browse every open notice and filter the list.
Saved notices
Save a notice to keep track of its deadlines and amendments.
Calendar feed and CSV export
Put deadlines in your calendar or take the data into a spreadsheet.
Expiring contracts
Federal contracts that are ending and will be bid again.
Primes to pitch
Large prime contractors that need small-business partners.
Recent awards
Recent award winners in a company's codes.
Project signals
Early signs of upcoming water and sewer projects.
Where the data comes from
Opprio checks these public sources and updates every morning:
- Contract opportunities from SAM.gov
- Grants from Grants.gov
- SBIR and STTR topics from sbir.gov
- Procurement forecasts from DHS and GSA
- Federal award history from USASpending.gov
- State and local bids from 1,500+ city, county and district websites
How it's built
Opprio runs on Next.js and TypeScript, with a PostgreSQL database managed through Prisma. Scheduled jobs collect new postings each day and match them to each person's alert rules. Stripe handles billing for the paid plans. The whole thing is hosted on Railway.
What it means for your project
Building Opprio meant building a data pipeline, matching, alert emails and a subscription site with billing. If your project needs some of the same pieces, take a look at our web apps and business systems. Our contractor websites with bid alerts use the same kind of public-bid monitoring that powers Opprio.
